The staff at My Recovery Day wishes everyone a safe and sober Holiday Season filled with joy. For some of us in recovery, the holiday season can be filled with some anxiousness, depression, loneliness or just a simple Bah Humbug attitude. What this alcoholic has found is not under any Christmas tree but rather in staying focused on these simple absolutes: Honesty, Unselfishness, Purity and Love. .
Here are a couple of the other holiday secrets I practice to keep joy in my heart. When I give a gift, I give it without any expectation of a return … that is no strings attached. The old saying that there is more joy in giving than receiving is true. And, when I feel a little lonely or depressed, I help others to get myself out of me. If you look, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer your time to help others. There is no shortage of organizations that can use help over the holiday such as food banks, hospitals, senior centers, churches and other nonprofits. Or just go to your local recovery meeting and talk to others in recovery. Again, from all of us to all of you, Happy Holidays!
